The Department of Economic and Rural Development provides leadership by helping create the right conditions for a strong, competitive, and sustainable economy. The Department’s primary purpose is an excellent complement to the goals of the Silver Economy Summit: To stimulate the economy by helping expand employment opportunities, encouraging the establishment and growth of commerce and industry, and generally enhancing the prosperity and well being of Nova Scotians. The Department of Seniors is grateful for sponsorship support of this key partner.

One of the strategic goals of the Department of Labour and Workforce Development is collaboration with partners and stakeholders in order to anticipate and plan for the challenges and opportunities for a changing economy. We are proud to partner with Labour and Workforce Development to support their goal at the Silver Economy Summit, and to share in two more of their strategic goals. Labour and Workforce Development strives to make sure all Nova Scotians have safe, healthy and supportive workplaces and communities, and to make sure Nova Scotia is able to identify and respond to provincial workforce requirements. |

The Public Service Commission’s Corporate Human Resource Plan speaks to the need for the provincial government to address many complex issues facing our workforce and workplace, such as a competitive labour market, diversity and immigration, youth employment, retirement trends, employee demographics, and employee and public perceptions of government as an employer. That means Nova Scotia as an employer was formally recognizing and addressing many of the Silver Economy Summit themes as early as 2005. The Department of Seniors recognizes the Public
Service Commission for both their vision and their sponsorship of the Summit. |
